Gender Economics Research Center of Narxoz University announces 3rd call of young researchers from Central Asian countries for awarding 3 (three) scholarships for conducting gender economics research


Gender Economics Research Center of Narxoz University announces 3rd call of young researchers from Central Asian countries for awarding 3 (three) scholarships for conducting gender economics research. Selected fellows will receive monthly scholarships in the amount of 110,600 (one hundred, ten thousand and six hundred) tenge for following 6 months for conducting gender economics research. Scholarships are intended to support young researchers and cover their research and administrative costs related to research (interviewing, survey, data collection and etc.).
A total of 3 (three) fellows will be selected. Projectsupportedby Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan (SFK) in the framework of “Open Economy” initiation.
The fellowship program assumes comprehensive and scientific support for young researchers from experienced scientific leaders with international research experience. Upon completion of the program, young researchers should prepare and present one scientific paper with practical recommendations for identifying policy responses to the crisis, taking into account the needs of women; prepare the paper for publication in an international peer-reviewed scientific journal; publish an article in the media on the mid-term and final results of the research.
Research areas for the fellowship are the following:
- Gender segregation and inequality in the labor market: the impact of COVID-19
- Gender statistics.
- Impact of the pandemic on women's unpaid care and domestic work
Research can be conducted in Russian or English.
Phases of the fellowship programme:
- Orientation session for fellows held by gender economics experts: - first half of December 2020.
- researchconducting – December 2020 - May 2021
- workshops/training sessions for fellows декабрь December 2020 - March 2021
- Progress reports on the implementation of research work plan: first week of each month
- Presentation of intermediate research results – March, 2021;
- Completion of the research, review – May-June, 2021;
- Research results presentation – June, 2021.
Applicants should note that by participating in the contest, they confirm their involvement in all of the stages of the project realization.
The competition is open to:
- Master and PhD researchers of Kazakhstani and abroad universities, studied on economic, financial and humanitarian disciplines;
- Economists, analysts and specialists who are employed in Kazakhstani and Central Asia research and analytical centres;
Independent analysts, and experts within an economic direction.
Eligibility requirements:
- Master’s degree;.
- Analytical and research experience (at least 2 years);
- Advanced level of English language proficiency required for writing scientific papers, studying scientific literature and training in gender economics. Certificate of proficiency in English and/or university degree in English-speaking countries are welcome.
- Age - up to 36;
- Be a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries permanently residing in these countries.
- The opportunity to participate in online training, workshops and other events within the framework of the scholarship program from December 2020 to March 2021.
- Commitment to the values ​​of an open society and the principles of open discussion of current public issues.
Competition terms:
Application deadline – November 29, 2020 (11:59 p.m., Astana time). Applications submitted later than the time stated will not be considered.
Note: Upon agreement with the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan Gender Economics Research Center may make minor changes in the timing of this competition at its own discretion.
