The final day of the international seminar Tectonic Value Shifts in Post-Soviet Societies: A Biographical Approach
Today was the third and final day of the Tectonic Value Shifts in Post-Soviet Societies: A Biographical Approach.
The day started with a session on shaping the structure of interviews that will be conducted within the framework of the study. The moderator was Sergey Erofeev, professor at Rutgers University. During the discussion, the methods of upcoming conversations about happiness, relative deprivation, emancipation and the personal / social future of citizens of each of the research countries were adopted.
Then there was a master class by Professor Howard Davis entitled "The main aspects of the research process". The proposals touched upon the following areas of research work:
key design features of the study;
organization of fieldwork;
analytical steps;
presentation of results in accordance with agreed formats;
project management and reporting on the work done;
possible partners and projects within the study.
The meeting participants also discussed the differences and dynamics of values among the research subjects: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Russia. In particular, attention was focused on government measures to improve human potential, including the Bolashak international scholarship - a scholarship established by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to train citizens in leading foreign higher educational institutions.
The three-day seminar, which brought together world experts in the field of sociology, economics and business, became the foundation of a large-scale study. In the evening, the participants of the event will enjoy a cultural program and an excursion around the city of Almaty. It is worth noting that a number of world experts, including Sergey Erofeev, Oleg Zhuravlev, Natalya Savelyeva and Danis Garaev, will hold a series of lectures at Narxoz University until November 2019 for university students.
As a reminder, Narxoz University acts as an educational platform for Tectonic Value Shifts in Post-Soviet Societies: A Biographical Approach. Within the framework of the project, scientists plan to implement training courses and prepare recommendations by the end of this year.
